ABOUT ME

Kyle Henkel, born April 11, 1994, is a flautist and graduate with a Masters in Music Theory & Composition from the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied under Dr. Donald Grantham & Dr. Yevgeniy Sharlat. Henkel holds a Bachelors in Music Theory & Composition from Stephen F. Austin State University, where he studied under Dr. Stephen Lias & Dr. Charles Halka. Henkel has also studied privately with Dr. Mikel Kuhen (at Bowling Green State University) and Dr. Andrew List (at the Zodiac Music Academy & Festival).
Henkel’s music has been performed all over the United States and around the world: France, Ukraine, and in Australia. In the Fall of 2020, Henkel’s brass ensemble AWAKE! was selected by the Dallas Winds for their 2020 Dallas Winds Fanfare Competition.
Henkel has received numerous commissions from the Zodiac Music Academy & Festival, a commission from the Acoustic Frontier, and Tetractys New Music (as the 2nd annual Tetractys New Works Commission prize). Along with the Tetractys commission, Henkel will be working with the ensemble Panoramic Voices to world premiere his work “Out of the Dark,…into the Light.” Henkel’s works have been performed by the DARQ Ensemble, the Videri String Quartet, members of the Corvus, the Phoenix Ensemble, the Neave Trio, and Ensemble Offspring.
Nowadays, you’ll find Kyle working on digital analytics for budding composers and large companies such as Varsity Brands and Pizza Hut. Besides that, you’ll find him stuck in traffic (curse you, I-35); attempting to finish his ever-growing To Be Read (TBR) list (spoiler alert: he won’t); more than likely getting injured doing a Spartan Race; and finding some time to write his first novel and write the never-ending musical ideas.
