about the piece
Frozen Cells (2016) was written for the Stephen F. Austin State University's Bright Ideas Conference with the collaboration of the School of Science & the School of Music: Composition Studio. Dr. Sarah Canterberry, a professor at SFASU who focuses in utilizing RNA interference (RNAi) to threat viruses that infect horses and other equine species. The piece is based off of the presentation of reanimation of frozen kidney cells. The cells are retrieved from a freezer that is set negative 30 degrees Celsius (cold enough to permanently damage skin).
